One of the biggest reasons for creating MommyLuvs2save was to create a community of moms and dads who want to help their family save money when buying essentials in order to free up money for debt repayment. My own family has paid off over $111,500 in consumer debt including credit cards, student loan debt and 2 vehicles. I am a teacher at heart. I want to use the skills that I have learned to help YOU ditch debt. I want to encourage each of you in your efforts so that one day you can feel the freedom of being debt free. I’m not quite there yet either (we still have a mortgage) so I need encouragement as well
It can be very difficult to pay down debt. There are many temptations to spend money. We live in a culture that encourages debt and spending. In addition, expenses come up and there never seems to be any extra money for paying down debt. I want to urge each of you to participate in a challenge. Just leave a comment about one positive step you’ve taken for your family each day. Did you eat in instead of going out? Did you save money at the grocery store? Did you pay extra on your credit card? Leave a comment below and we will cheer one another on every day and every step of the way.
The challenge is to leave a comment about what YOU have done to work on getting debt free each day. One winner will be chosen to win a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of each month. To participate in the challenge you must comment on at least 10 posts during the month.
* I will also be sharing my progress from the day prior.
My Progress: I had a pretty productive day. I cleaned out the van and cleaned all of the windows. I cut a bunch of coupons and headed over to the grocery store. I had a $100 bill in my pocket that I earned from our little side business, so the grocery money didn’t come out of the regular budget. I got TONS of meat because it was 40% off (through today). I also got lots of other stuff. I had a cart full and my total after coupons was $109, so only $9 out of the grocery fund. We have enough meat to last 3 or 4 weeks. I ended up going back to the store later with my parents because it was my mom’s first trip to the store since before her open heart surgery (and subsequent stroke). She did well using the cart for support. They got about 15 items and she seemed to enjoy choosing her own items. It was a total success !
I made all meals at home. I also made chocolate pudding for dessert. We went over my sister’s house after dinner so that the cousins could play. They haven’t played together as often as I’d like lately with school being back in session. After the girls went to bed Ro and I watched an episode of “Extreme Makeover” that I had DVR’d. I am still plugging away at losing weight, but am still hovering around the 40lb lost mark and need to kick it into higher gear. Ro and I are on the same page so we were happy to have the motivation. How exciting we are on a Friday night – ha ha. I paid the mortgage online (before the end of the grace period). I paid an extra $10. Hey, it’s something right ?!
What did you do? Leave a comment We’d love to hear about it You could make 2013 your year. The winner for the August WHYD contest was Miriam. Congrats ! Who will the September winner be ? We’ll see…
