I spent many years of my life being a nanny, mainly for infants but occasionally I would take on older kids as well particularly during the summer months. One thing I quickly learned is that kids go through a lot of dishes! I could spend entire afternoons at the sink washing away if I hadn’t implemented this simple trick:
Each person gets one drinking glass and they use it all day long.
It’s a simple concept, but one that does not always get put into action. Once you make it a part of your and your children’s daily routines, it will be second nature to only use “your” cup. You can do this by everyone having a different cup each day (this could get confusing though!) or each person using the exact same cup day after day and picking one time of day to wash them as needed. Or you can use a simple labeling system like Drinkbands! When my husband was growing up, he had one specific cup that he used every day and when we go to his parents house he still insists on using that cup. So, I know it works! These days, we both have cups with lids and straws that we use throughout the day and we always know who has the pink cup and who has the green cup!
