Yesterday was my birthday, and my DH asked me if I wished for a trip to the spa. Not really, I told him. (A vacation someplace nice? Sure! lol) I'm actually perfectly fine relaxing in the comfort of my own home. Just give me a bit of extra time in the bathroom, and some pretty smelling bath gel, and I'm already happy.
Back when we lived in the apartment (read: pre-kid lol), I used to go all out for homemade spa time for me. For the first time in my adult life, I lived in a place with a real bathtub so I took full advantage of it. My cell phone would be turned off. I'd light up scented candles, fill the tub all the way with a bubbling warm soak, and relax for awhile in the tub. I called it scrubbing my cares away! (Oh, if I had only known then that Murphy's Law was going to get a lot worse...) I had a special fluffy towel that was off limits to my DH so I could dry off with something soft and cozy. I always kept my eyes open for good deals on assorted different bubble baths, body washes, and sugar scrubs so I could pick and choose what scent or mood I wanted to evoke.
Even though things have changed for me - our bathroom is a lot smaller here and my life isn't exactly conducive to spending all afternoon in the tub (LOL) - I still enjoy my at home spa time in the bathroom. The candles are long gone, but I enjoy splurging on different body washes. I keep several in the shower at a time so I can still pick and choose whether I want something calming or a fruity pick me up. When I have a little extra time, I'll pop my feet in an epsom salt and lavender oil soak, and paint my toenails a pretty color. I always make sure I take that little bit of time out of my free time just for me so I don't go completely insane. ;) If you're not doing the same, I urge you to just take a few extra moments to relax in the shower with a special body wash.
